Davis has a wide range of important law enforcement experience, for at least 36 years. Recently, he was the Commissioner of the Boston Police Department for 7 years from 2006 to 2013. Shooting was reduced by at least 40% of his working as the Commissioner. On the other hand, serious crime in the area went down by over 30% within 7 years.

Davis started his career as a patrol officer in 1978 with the Lowell Police Department. Later, he proved himself and got promoted through the ranks, first as a Detective, then to Detective Sergeant, and later as the D L. After some time, he was promoted to Captain in 1992. Further, as Captain Davis, he was now in charge of Community Policing and Commander of a combined federal, state as well as local Narcotics and Organized Crime Unit.


As he participated in many programs at Harvard University, Davis received the prestigious John B. Pickett Fellowship in Criminal Justice Policy and Management. On the other hand, he has received so many awards for the community. Some of such are a Better Government Award,  a Local Hero Award, and also  National Leadership Award.
